Number of Ideas: 2Educating Disabled Veterans and Employers about Workplace Rights and Responsibilities Online Dialogue
The U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Disability Employment Policy (ODEP) and Veterans' Employment and Training Service (VETS) have teamed up with the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) to host this online dialogue in order to promote new thinking around the employment and advancement of veterans, including disabled veterans, and to improve education efforts for employers regarding their responsibilities under federal employment laws. The agencies are seeking information to more effectively reach veterans in hopes of having a positive effect on the number of disability discrimination complaints filed by veterans with disabilities, and to ensure that all veterans understand their workplace rights and responsibilities to avoid job loss and other workplace hardships. Ideas and comments from this dialogue will be used to enhance the federal government’s outreach efforts to the employer community about their rights and responsibilities under federal employment laws, such as the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act (USERRA), Vietnam Era Veterans’ Readjustment Assistance Act (VEVRAA), and how they can be enforced. Participants ideas and comments will be shared with policymakers to enhance employment opportunities for all veterans, including those with disabilities.
